Reaching Our Communities is seeking volunteers in the following areas

Capture the Dream Summer Camp

Volunteers needed for
1) Transportation of lunches – 1 day a week - 11AM – Noon. Must provide transportation.

 

Bookworm Program

Volunteer:

Through our mobile library units, Bookworm volunteers provide a fun reading program to small groups of children living in low- income communities in Virginia Beach and Norfolk. One hour – one day a week – same site. Program seeks to engage children in a love for reading. Each library unit comes equipped with exciting lesson extensions. Record keeping is required but simple. The program takes place year round.

Administrative Assistance:

Areas of need include filing, knowledge of Microsoft Word/MAC encouraged, phone calling, and reporting. Responsibilities include specific organizational tasks from communication with donors to managing different program areas administration.

 

Reading with the kids.Homeless to Housing (H2H)

Mentors

Mentors work directly with children/youth who are in transitional housing situations. All of the children at some point have been homeless. Must be available weekly to meet with child in a group setting with other mentors. Assist with homework, journals and enjoy a family style meal with child. Available to attend field trips at least once a year.

Dinner Coordination

Dinner coordinators help organize and implement a plan that will provide simple, weekly meals for the Homeless to Housing program on Monday at 6:30 PM from September 2010-December 2011. Must communicate with Program Director regarding plan.

Kitchen Staff

Help in areas of preparing, serving and/or clean up.

 

Toddler and Parent Program:

Assistant to the Program Director:

Assist with parent/child sign in, lunch serving, and assist Program Director in all program needs onsite. Flexible time: Call parents ahead of time to remind them. Help coordinate lunches by calling local small groups/churches and local businesses.
