This program meets the many different developmental and practical needs of the children we serve.
Bookworm
Bookworm promotes a love for reading as well as helps to develop reading skills that are necessary children to excel in school. The program is held weekly in small groups, provides lesson extensions for each book and celebrates reading through Book Parties. Libraries are built for community centers that participate in this program.
TAP (Toddler and Parent) Workshops and Camps
TAP provides hands on parenting workshops and camps for parents with toddlers or preschoolers. Parents are required to attend with their little ones. Reading,science, music and art activities provide parents an opportunity to learn how to provide a fun and educational atmosphere for their child to grow. Lunch is always served. Practical needs such as diapers, milk, and groceries are provided to participants through this program.
Healthy Homes
Healthy Homes’ workshops teach parents of small children marketable job skills of housekeeping. The series, which takes place twice a year, includes teaching on small business practices, detailed instruction on how to effectively clean a home, how to write a resume and interview with potential employers. Buckets full of recommended products are distributed at graduation. Parents who complete the series earn a certificate from Virginia Cooperative Extension. Child care and lunch are provided.
Jump Start Your Heart!
An innovative and highly interactive nutrition program teaches at risk children and youth the importance of making healthy, nutritional choices regardless of family budget.
Where?
The T.R.A.I.L.S. program takes place right in our at-risk neighborhoods either in community centers, churches or in summer camp programs.
